President of the Youth Academy and Assistant Coach Alex Kao to become Head Coach of Maryland Bobcats FC Senior Team

BOYDS, MD - Maryland Bobcats FC (MBFC) Youth Academy President, Assistant Coach, and former Player, Alex Kao will become Head Coach of the Senior team for the 2023 NISA League season.

Kao has been with MBFC since 2019, first as a midfielder where he was integral in winning the UPSL Fall 2019 National Championship. He would soon captain the senior team as the club transitioned to its current status as the only professional outdoor soccer team in the State of Maryland.

“I feel extremely fortunate to be trusted to lead the team as a head coach this upcoming year. I want to recognize the work that my predecessor has done at the club this past year which was an incredible job. He brought an incredible level of professionalism and training structure that I admire. Luckily for me I was able to learn a lot in the process of being his assistant.” said Kao

“Everything runs through the leadership. My role as coach will be to lead the way in the training ground by bringing a high standard and ensure it is healthily passed on to the players.

To the fans, you are getting someone that cares about the success of this club from top to bottom and that is for all."

Kao brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Head Coach position having previously served as assistant coach of the senior team during the 2022 season. Additionally, Kao has served as head coach of MBFC Youth Academy U18 team who made appearances in numerous showcases and tournaments across the country. He also holds a UEFA B Coaching license.

Born in Togo, Kao grew up in France where he would start his playing career at Red Star 94 in the French Capital City of Paris from 2007 to2009. He would then move to Paris FC from 2009 to 2013 where he was a part of an undefeated U17 team and would captain a U19 team to a French Cup (Coupe Gambardella) Final Four Appearance.

After playing in France, Kao would come to the US and start his collegiate playing career with Louisburg College in North Carolina where he would captain the team to its first NJCAA National Title in school history in 2015. He would transfer to the University of Connecticut and play there from 2016 to2017. After college, he played for the Philadelphia Fury from 2018-2019 before coming to MBFC.
