January 20, 2020 - Silver Spring, MD - Maryland Bobcats FC hosted their 2020 tryouts this past weekend at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD. Attendees were put through the paces as they looked to make one of the squads for the 2020 seasons. Saturday's tryout was made more challenging between the cold, wind, and precipitation, but the players were determined to keep up a high level of play.
Over a course of two and a half hours, players did passing patterns, small-sided games, and various other drills so our coaches could see them in a variety of different environments and playing with different players.
Sunday's weather was much more cooperative with the weather but while still cold, many players braved the temperatures and turned in a quality session. Keepers were broken away from the field players and put through a goalkeeper session with our goalkeepers coach while the field players were asked to play in tight spaces while keeping the level and pace of play high. The two groups were eventually brought together to play and the rest of the tryout went on without a hitch.
Head Coach Phil Nana was excited with what he saw over the two days and was encouraged by the level he saw, even in cold and we conditions. "The tryouts were great. They turnout was incredible as there is a lot of local talent that sometimes gets overlooked. Through a rigorous 2 day tryout, we were able to see a few young, promising players that would be a great addition to any pro club. A month into 2020 and the team, club, and community are all buzzing. We love it."
With the 2020 seasons fast approaching, the coaching staff has some decisions to make on the rosters they will carry into battle. Over the next few weeks, the coaching staff will have to make some tough decisions on who is going to make the final rosters.
