February 3, 2020 - College Park, MD - On Saturday, Maryland Bobcats FC signed the majority of the rosters for both our National Premier Soccer League and United Premier Soccer League teams for the 2020 seasons. 35 players signed on to go into battle in 2020 in the two leagues the club will be competing in.
Around noon on Saturday, February 1st, players and their family and friends started filing in to the Grand Ballroom at the Holiday Inn in College Park, MD. There was a buzz in the room and players were joking, family were taking pictures, and the staff was finishing getting everything set up for the signings to come.
Players and family enjoyed lunch and conversation while also getting a first look at the new training, travel, and pregame gear the players will wear throughout 2020. After a welcome message from GM/Director of Operations Evan Raimist, President Jide Saba talked to the players and family about the vision of the club, the high expectations he has, and how the club is more than a team, but a family. After he gave his remarks, both Technical Director Paul Ngend and Assistant Technical Director Tunde Banjo gave their short intros and the signing day started.
Players were called up to the front, cheered, and congratulated by the staff. They signed their contract, took some photos with some staff, and then were invited to take pictures with their family and friends. While all this was going on, music played in the background, players already signed changed into their track suits for more pictures, and family and friends mingled together and talked.
After each player went through the process, they proceeded to head over to tables where the new gear was lined up by item and size and received their training and travel gear. Once everyone had their moment, Head Coach Phil Nana stepped up to the microphone, got everyone back in their seats, and gave his closing remarks. He thanked our sponsors (which includes the Holiday Inn College Park where the event was being held) as well as the ownership group and front office staff no one sees but are so vital to the success of the club. After his statement, he thanked everyone for coming, and vowed to make everyone proud down in Miami for the UPSL National Finals.
